Hitsuji Chronicle: Nutaku’s Latest Hentai Game JRPG

  |

Nanatsu village has been besieged by demonic forces, scattering its inhabitants and leaving a number of them deeply in need of therapy. The survivors of the original assault have sent to the capital for a hero to help rebuild the village and return their wayward maiden daughters, who seem to have been scattered to the four winds. Unfortunately for the villagers, the “hero” they ended up with you – a lascivious womanizer who somehow managed to convince his superiors in the Church that he’s a crack warrior-therapist as a cover for his ethically questionable behavior.

If you’re scratching your head at this point, you’re not the only one. The plot of Hitsuji Chronicle is a hilarious mish-mash of fantasy tropes and religious fetishism, coated just enough kawaii polish to keep it from being creepy. Fortunately, it’s also one of the most entertaining adventure mechanics of a Nutaku game yet, with unique characters, equipment customization, and in-battle tactics formations that introduce some truly skill-testing scenarios later in the game.

If you played the venerable Lord of Valkyrie, you’ll recognize this model of adventure story: the hero is presented with a series of challenges inevitably involving wayward girls, whose problems range from arachnophobia to a severe fear of peanuts. The resolution of these mysteries generally involves leading your squad of crack Amazons into various dungeons to retrieve a magical macguffin and cure them of their mental ills. Overwhelmed with gratitude, they inevitably sleep with you.

Overall, I’d rank Hitsuji Chronicle as 4 out of 5. It’s an easy-to-get into adventure game with clean looking art and above-average H-scenes. The storyline is far enough into the “weird” category that it stops being distracting and just fades into the generally bizarre background vibe present in most of these games.

And hey, it’s not every day you get to play a sex-obsessed priest.
